Famous Families, Fugitive Slaves, and a Forgotten Soldier: 150 Years of History in Kitchener Mount Hope Cemetery

We will visit the memorials for the World War 1 soldier that was forgotten for 90 years until his war medal was discovered, a pioneering black family that escaped slavery in the southern US in the 1840s, and some famous families that still have their names on buildings that were built when the city of Kitchener was the town of Berlin. We'll visit Berlin's first tire maker and Berlin's first button maker (who had an employee who made great sausages). And we'll hear how these people helped these industries become a part of Berlin's powerful manufacturing sector.

MHBP: From East to West and Past to Future

The Mount Hope - Breithaupt Park Neighbourhood began as Kitchener’s industrial suburb and part of that legacy continues. But it is also developing as a tech hub and the landscape is being reformed by the Weber street widening. Our short walk [mainly] along Breithaupt Street will show a diverse area with many exciting developments. But we must also remember our heritage and actively pursue livability and walkability.

Earth Day Cleanup, April 24, 2015

The MHBPNA is sponsoring our 2nd Annual Earth Day clean up at George Lippert Park. The action starts at 5:30 pm. This is also a great opportunity to discuss how we use the park and what we hope the scheduled rehabilitation will accomplish.

Notice of Public Information Centre Regarding Waterloo Spur Line Trail and Storm Drainage Improvements

The Region of Waterloo is committed to increasing transportation choice, and the Multi-use Trail Feasibility and Design Study is an important step toward this goal.

The envisioned trail is a three- to four-metre wide hard-surface multi-use trail running along 2.5 kilometres of the rail line.

The trail will promote active living by connecting established residential neighbourhoods, employment nodes, and future rapid transit station areas in Kitchener and Waterloo.
